Preston Man Arrested After Fleeing Police was also Found with Baseball Bat

A 26-year-old man is in custody after a short police pursuit in Preston last night, following observations of mobile phone use while driving.

Officers from the Roads Crime Team were on patrol on Fletcher Road at approximately 8:14 pm on Tuesday, March 4th, when they witnessed the driver of a Kia Ceed using his mobile phone behind the wheel.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply, leading to a brief pursuit.

The driver was subsequently detained.
A search of the Kia Ceed revealed a baseball bat located by the driver’s side door.

The 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of multiple offences, including:

* Using a mobile phone while driving
* Failing to stop when required by police
* Driving without a licence
* Driving without insurance
* Possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

The man remains in custody as investigations continue.
