A man has died after falling from a significant height at a construction site on Greenheys Lane in Hulme, Manchester, on Tuesday, March 4th.

Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 3 pm following reports of a man falling, believed to be from a crane.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), including an air ambulance, attended the incident at the Manchester Science Park development. Upon arrival, paramedics found the man had suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A GMP spokesperson confirmed: “Shortly after 3pm this afternoon (Tuesday 4 March) we were called by NWAS to reports of concern for welfare of a man on Greenheys Lane, Manchester. It’s believed that a man has fallen from a significant height, and suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite the best efforts of those at the scene, the man has been pronounced deceased. A scene remains in place whilst we respond.”

The construction site was immediately cordoned off, and forensic officers in white suits were seen conducting investigations throughout the afternoon. The man’s identity has not yet been released.

Willmott Dixon, the main contractor for the development, confirmed that the incident involved a member of the public who had gained unauthorised access to the site.

A Willmott Dixon spokesperson stated:

“We can confirm that an incident took place on our site on Greenheys Lane at Manchester Science Park this afternoon, 4 March, involving a member of the public who gained unauthorised access.

The site is now closed, and the project team are cooperating fully with the emergency services as they investigate the incident. Our thoughts are with the person’s family at this difficult time, and we will also offer full support to our people and supply chain members on site given the tragic situation that has occurred this afternoon.”

The incident has prompted an investigation by GMP, with further details expected to be released in due course.
