Four-Year-Old Girl Dies Following Manchester House Fire; Arson Arrest Made

A four-year-old girl has tragically died following a house fire on Gateshead Close, Manchester, on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation and have arrested a woman in connection with the incident.

Emergency services were called to the property at approximately 12:35 PM, responding to reports of a fire. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze and rescued the young girl, who had sustained severe injuries. Despite the efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, the girl succumbed to her injuries a short time later.

A 44-year-old woman, who is known to the child, has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. She remains in custody for questioning.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a scene remains in place at the property on Gateshead Close, as specialist officers conduct a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fire.

“This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young girl at this incredibly difficult time,” stated a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police.

They added: “Our officers are working diligently to determine the precise cause of the fire, and we are appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.”

The police have also reassured the community that, based on current information, there is no wider threat to the public.
