Blackpool Residents Hailed Heroes After Dramatic Fire Rescue

Two men are being praised for their heroic actions after saving a man from a house fire in Blackpool during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident occurred on Woodfield Road, where a passerby was alerted by a persistent fire alarm coming from a domestic property. Upon closer inspection, they realised no one had evacuated the property reports Blackpool 999s.

Acting swiftly, the passerby sprang into action, and with the assistance of a neighbour, they tackled the blaze, which is believed to have originated in the bedroom.

Their quick thinking and decisive actions resulted in the fire being extinguished before it could spread further.

The occupant, a man, was then bravely carried to safety by the passerby, ensuring he was removed from the dangerous environment before the arrival of emergency services.

Blackpool 999s reported that the man was subsequently taken to hospital for further assessment, having been rescued from the fire shortly before 1am.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly to the emergency, dispatching three fire engines from South Shore and Blackpool Fire Stations to the scene. Firefighters spent approximately forty-five minutes at the property, ensuring the area was safe and ventilating the premises using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed:

“At 00:36 hours on 2nd March 2025, three fire engines from South Shore and Blackpool Fire Stations attended a domestic premises on Woodfield Road, Blackpool.

The fire involved a ground floor bedroom and was out upon the arrival of the fire service.

Fire crews used a positive pressure ventilation fan to make the scene safe. Fire crews were on scene for approximately forty-five minutes.”

The community is now celebrating the bravery and quick thinking of the two men, whose actions undoubtedly prevented a potentially tragic outcome.
