A cordon remains in place whilst officers deal with this incident

A cordon has been put in place in Preston City Centre this evening amid reports of a concern for welfare.

Lancashire Police are in attendance at Lancaster Road, and this is currently closed from the Old Vicarage down to Ringway.

The exact nature of the concern for welfare has not been disclosed and the cordon is close to The Exchange apartment block and Palentine House Government offices.

The road is likely to be closed for some time say the force and motorists are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said earlier:

“We want to update you and let you know that Lancaster Road is currently closed from the junction of Old vicarage to Ringway due to a concern for welfare.

We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time whilst we assess the situation.
In the meantime, we’d recommend avoiding the area.

We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening and we’ll update you here once we know more. As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you’re out and about today.”
