The incident allegedly happened on Sunday 23rd February
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of rape following reports a woman was attacked on a footbridge in Cleethorpes last weekend.
In a statement released today, Humberside Police said:
“Following an earlier appeal in connection with a reported rape in Cleethorpes on Sunday 23 February, we can confirm a teenager has been arrested.
We received a call at approximately 9.40pm from a woman who reported she was walking along the footbridge near to Harrington Street in the direction of the seafront, when she was approached by a man walking a small dog and reportedly raped.
Detective Chief Inspector Karen Rogers said: “We have been carrying out extensive lines of enquiries over the course of the last week, this includes reviewing CCTV footage in the area and conducting house to house enquiries.
“Following those enquiries, I can confirm that a 15-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of rape yesterday (Thursday, 27 February). He has since been released on conditional bail whilst our investigations continue.
“I know this incident will be concerning for our local community; however, I hope the news of this arrest reassures the public that we continue to treat this investigation as a priority.
