Five other occupants of the vehicle suffered no injuries say Police
A 17-year-old male has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries after a car collided with a fence following a police chase in Woodham, Durham.
In an appeal made today, Durham Police said:
“Officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle in the Woodham area this morning (Monday, February 24) at around 3am.
The vehicle – a black Ford Mondeo carrying six occupants – was spotted driving northbound on the A167 near Beaumont Hill, where it failed to stop for police.
Following a short pursuit, the vehicle collided with a fence at the junction with St Cuthberts Way.
One of the occupants – a 17-year-old boy – sustained serious head injuries and was taken to James Cook University Hospital by ambulance, where he is currently being treated for his injuries.
The five other occupants were checked over by paramedics but sustained no serious injuries.
All were arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving, and failing to stop, and all remain in police custody while further enquiries are carried out.
Police are also appealing for anybody who may have witnessed or have CCTV footage of suspicious activity in the Pemberton Road area of Woodham Village in the early hours of this morning to get in touch.
Investigating officers are particularly interested in any footage relating to the black Ford Mondeo and a black Ford Fiesta in the hours prior to the collision.”
