Two casualties cut free from vehicle following Accrington crash

The collision happened between two vehicles shortly before 1am on Sunday morning

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a road traffic collision on Whalley Road in Accrington in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The road was blocked off for a short time to allow firefighters from Hyndburn fire station to extricate two casualties from the wreckage.

Using specialist equipment, firefighters removed the roof of the vehicle, extricated two casualties, and handed them over to the North West Ambulance Service for treatment.

It is unknown what type of vehicles were involved and the nature of any injuries sustained. Lancashire Police have been approached for more details.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said:

“At 00:49, fire engines from Hyndburn attended a road traffic collision involving on Whalley Road, Accrington.

The incident involved two vehicles and firefighters removed the roof of one of the vehicles to help with the extrication of two casualties.

The casualties were left in the care of the North West Ambulance Service.”
