Residents evacuated have also been allowed to return to their homes
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a large fire in Wythenshawe on Sunday morning.
The fire involved a heavy goods vehicle and commercial unit at the Roundthorn Industrial estate on Ennis Road.
Ten fire engines from across Greater Manchester were dispatched shortly after 8am with loud explosions heard across the area and thick plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing across the skies.
A road closure was put in place whilst emergency services dealt with the incident and these have now been lifted.
Firefighters remain on scene this evening.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service said:
“Shortly after 8.15am on Sunday 23 February, fire engines and specialist appliances from across Greater Manchester were called to attend a fire involving heavy goods vehicles and a commercial unit on Caldey Road, Manchester.
“Crews arrived quickly and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets, an aerial ladder and other specialist equipment.
“Several nearby properties were evacuated due to the amount of smoke but the residents affected have all now returned to their homes with the assistance of Greater Manchester Police. The road closures that were in place have also been lifted.
“The incident has been scaled back but firefighters remain in attendance.”
