A1 closed after multi vehicle crash involving car believed to be driving wrong way down carriageway

Nottinghamshire Police said the road is likely to be closed for some time

Emergency services are currently in attendance at a multi vehicle collision on the A1 near Blyth this evening.

The collision happened  between Blyth and the Five Lane End Junction for Clumber Park shortly before 8pm involving multiple vehicles. 

An eye witness reported seeing a car travelling the wrong way down the carriageway and added they had to swerve out of the way to miss the oncoming vehicle.

It is unknown how many casualties are reported at this stage and the carriageway is closed whilst emergency services attend to this collision.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said:

“The A1 has been closed after a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.

The northbound carriageway has closed between Blyth and the Five Lane End junction for Clumber Park and will remain closed for some time.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area.”
