Two Burglars locked up after getting caught “red handed” trying to burgle Burnley pub

Both were sentenced to a total of 34 weeks in prison

Two burglars caught by Police trying to burgle a pub in Burnley town centre have been handed prison sentences totalling 34 weeks.

In an update posted on Friday, Lancashire Police said:

“In the early hours of 20th February 2025 a pub near to Burnley Town Centre was targeted by these two thieves who attempted to break in to steal from inside. A quick response from the police resulted in them being caught red handed and taken to custody.

Danny Shaw (left), 43, of no fixed abode in Burnley and Steven Hargreaves (right), 43, also of no fixed abode in Burnley were charged with attempted burglary later that same day. Both of them were kept in custody and put before the next available court.

Today (21st February) both were sentenced to a total of 34 weeks in prison.

If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime!

Inspector Matt Plummer from Burnley Neighbourhood Policing Team said:

“A fast response from our colleagues on nights and a thorough investigation from our investigations team has led to a fantastic result putting these two burglars in prison for a lengthy sentence.

Burglary is one of the crimes that my team are trying to clamp down on and I hope this reassures the community these reports are taken seriously”.
