A Police cordon remained in place overnight whilst forensic examinations were carried out
An investigation is underway after a man suffered a gunshot wound to the buttocks on Friday night.
In a statement released today, Merseyside Police said:
“We were called around 9pm to reports of a firearms discharge on Fountains Road Walton.
When officers arrived, the victim had left the scene in a car, and he self-presented at the hospital a short time later. The victim had been shot in the buttock, and his injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
It is believed the victim was on Fountains Road when a dark car pulled up alongside him. A passenger in the rear of the car opened the door and fired a gun at the victim. Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene, and house-to-house inquiries are underway.
Officers will also be looking at CCTV from the area in a bid to identify the person responsible, the driver of the car, and another passenger within the car.
“High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community.”
Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher added: “We are relentless in our pursuit of those involved in gun crime and will do anything in our power to remove these individuals from our streets and put them behind bars.
“We are committed to tackling gun crime, but we can’t do it on our own. I would urge people from the community who may have any information that could help our investigation to contact us.
“Any information provided will be acted upon. Help us to put the person responsible for firing the gun where he belongs – behind bars.
