A stretch of Longsight Road in Bury remains sealed off on Thursday night following the discovery
A Police cordon remains in place in Bury following the suspected discovery of a body on an embankment close to Holcombe Brook Sports and tennis club.
Emergency services, including Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service, were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4:30pm.
Forensic officers and detectives could be seen carrying out investigations at the scene.
Motorists are being advised to stay away from the area, and the road closure is expected to stay in place for some time.
A spokesperson for Bury Council said:
“Longsight Road is currently closed at its junction with Brandlesholme Road and Vernon Road.
The road is likely to be shut off for some time, and traffic delays are likely. Please avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes.”
Councillor John Southworth, Councillor for North Manor ward, said in a comment: “Can I respectfully request that people stay away from the scene, let our emergency services do their job and avoid online speculation.”

Gmp confirmed the body of a man was found following a concern for welfare call.
A spokesperson said on Friday, on Friday, “At around 5pm last night (Thursday 20 February), emergency services responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Longsight Road, Ramsbottom.
Sadly, a man was found deceased at the scene.
There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time and file will be prepared for the coroner in due course.
