The violent man tried to strangle his victim in an attack last year
Alex Byrne attacked the woman a number of times, including biting and throwing a clothes dryer at her.
The 39-year-old had also threatened to kill her.
Last March, the woman called police asking for help. Following a number of arrest attempts at addresses linked to Byrne officers issued a wanted appeal.
On 20 June, Byrne was arrested outside a restaurant after assaulting door staff.
He was charged with intentional strangulation, two counts of assault, four counts of criminal damage, and sending malicious communications.
On 13 February at Birmingham Crown Court, Alex Byrne was sentenced to five years and four months in prison.
Detective Inspector Phil Griffths from West Midlands Police said: “Byrne is a dangerous man who subjected this woman to awful physical and mental violence.
“We have supported the woman throughout this difficult process, kept her safe, and put her in touch with charities for further support.”
