He has been convicted following a trail at Birmingham Crown Court
A man has been convicted of picking up a vulnerable woman on a night out in West Bromwich and taking her back to his Birmingham address where he raped her.
Donovan Brown has been found guilty of the rape of a female over 16 years of age following a trial held at Birmingham Crown Court. The 38-year-old will be sentenced at the same court on 25 April.
Brown had picked up the woman, who had been heavily drinking, following a night out in West Bromwich on the evening of 3 August last year. Despite the woman asking Brown to take her home, he took her back to his address in Perry Barr and raped her.
The woman woke up at his home on the morning of 4 August to find Brown raping her. He then dropped her back to where he picked her up from, and she reported the attack to Police.
In a statement released after sentencing, West Midlands Police said:
“We started our investigations and managed to secure CCTV which showed Brown with the woman. We than mapped the journey he took with her to his address and arrested Brown just days later.
Her true and consistent account of what happened, and Brown’s changing version of events, led to his conviction.
DC Daniel Folley, from our public protection unit, said: “Due to the brave actions of this woman in coming forward we were able to secure a conviction for a dangerous individual who took advantage of her vulnerabilities whilst she was on a night out. We hope her bravery encourages other people subjected to sexual abuse to come forward.”
It is important to note that survivors of sexual assault are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.”
