Both pleaded guilty earlier at court to their offending
Two West Yorkshire robbers who targeted delivery drivers and members of the public in parks have been sentenced.
In an update posted today, West Yorkshire Police said:
“Robbers who targeted victims in a series of crimes in Huddersfield have been jailed for a combined 12 years.
Kirklees District Crime Team welcomed the sentencing of Paul Powell, aged 19, and Samuel Shelton, aged 26, at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday February 12th February for a series of jointly committed offences in Huddersfield in June 2024.
The pair had pleaded guilty to committing a series of robberies between June 14th and June 25th.
Powell, (pictured left) of Logwood Road also admitted additional offences of attempted robbery and possession of a knife in a public place. He was jailed for six years and six months in total.
Shelton, of Wheathouse Road (pictured right) also admitted two additional offences of driving while disqualified and was jailed for an overall six years.
Extensive enquiries were conducted into the robberies in which the pair targeted delivery drivers and members of the public in public parks.
Both males were identified following police enquiries and arrested on June 26th and charged to appear before magistrates on June 28th.
They pleaded guilty to their offending at a hearing at Leeds Crown Court in December.
DC 1096 Walker of the Huddersfield District Crime Team, said: “We welcome the conviction of these two men for a series of nasty robbery offences in which members of the public were approached and threatened for their property.
“These offences caused real distress for victims and prompted a large scale investigation by detectives, resulting in these men being identified and a strong criminal case being built against them.
“Tackling robbery remains a priority for the force and we hope victims from these offences can take some comfort from seeing these men behind bars.”
