Homes were evacuated as firefighters attended domestic fire in Cottam

Residents from nearby homes expressed their concerns about smelling something burning on social media

Residents in nearby homes were evacuated following a domestic building fire in Cottam on Monday night.

Firefighters attended Hoyles Lane shortly before 10pm to reports of a house fire. Three fire engines from across Preston were dispatched to the incident alongside Lancashire Police.

Neighbouring properties were evacuated along with residents backing onto the property in nearby Buckthorn Drive for a short time whilst emergency services made the scene safe.

The exact nature of the fire is currently unknown, and reports suggest no persons were injured as a result of this fire and everybody managed to get out of the property safely.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said earlier:

“We are currently assisting the fire service with a fire on Hoyles Lane Cottam. Please avoid the area, and we will provide an update when we can.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said:

At 21:56 on 17th February 2025, three fire engines from Fulwood, Preston, and Penwortham attended a domestic building fire on Hoyles Lane, Preston.

Firefighters are wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reels and a ventilation unit to extinguish the fire. Crews remain in attendance.”
