Two hospitalised with multiple injuries following dog attack in Liverpool

The dog has been removed and will be humanely destroyed say Merseyside Police

Two people have been taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries during a dog attack in Liverpool on Saturday night.

In a statement released today, Merseyside Police said:

“Officers were called to a house on Sunflower Close, Woodchurch, just before midnight last night (Saturday, 15 February) to reports of the attack.

When they arrived the dog had attacked a man within address, causing multiple injuries, and was attacking a woman. There were three children in the address and the officers were able to put them out of harms way in a separate room with a door.

The officers managed to contain the dog and get it out of the property, where they were able to keep it until it could be removed.

The dog has been handed over by the owner and will be humanely destroyed. Work is ongoing to establish the breed of dog.

The two people who were attacked were taken to hospital where they are being treated for the injuries, which aren’t life threatening.

The man received deep cuts to his right ankle, puncture wounds to his forearms and hands, and fracture to his right hand. The woman suffered a puncture wound to her right cheek and deep cuts to her forearms. Fortunately none of the children were injured during the incident.

Chief Inspector Dave Atkinson/ Detective Chief Inspector Andy McCourt, said: “It is believed that the children were playing hide and seek in the house when the dog started to growl at them,  the male occupant tried to remove the dog, which then attacked him. When the woman owner tried to stop the dog she too was attacked.

“The dog in this property was dangerously out of control, despite this our officers went in and bravely faced the situation before them, stopping the continuing attack and ensuring the children were safe before managing to contain the dog and remove it from the property.

They should be commended for their actions which prevented further serious injuries and meant that the ambulance service could get into the address to provide medical support to the injured parties before taking them to hospital.”
