Lancashires Special Constables have had an eventful weekend

Lancashire Police’s Specials have been patrolling the streets of Lancashire, keeping the roads safe for motorists travelling around the county. This weekend, they have given us the public an insight into some of the work they’ve been up to.

In a social media post, Lancashire Police Special Sgt said:

“Friday, less than 5 minutes into the shift, myself and S/Insp Katie attended an RTC whereby one vehicle hadn’t adhered to the give way junction, colliding with the side of a van causing it to collide with a lamp post, both vehicles recovered and the driver at fault was reported for driving without due care. While we had the road closed, one motorist thought he would come up to our vehicle and flash us out of the way, this was obviously not going to happen so I approached his vehicle to explain, and he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt so he was given a ticket!

Then issued a s.59 warning for one driver blatantly driving in excess of the speed limit, cutting other motorists up. When spoken to, the driver stated there was an emergency! This emergency turned out not to be one at all. To top it off, she was driving so poor with an unrestrained child in the rear, on the knee of a passenger without a seatbelt, the consequences of what would happen in a potential crash were explained and the driver was given a further ticket. Tickets also issued to another driver for going through a red light.

Saturday – S/Insp Katie, SCs Sophie and James and I set up a couple check sites in the Ormskirk and Preston area, 2 drivers caught going over the 30mph limit were given tickets (36mph and 48mph).

2 vehicles seized for having no insurance, one driver stating he cancelled it due to cost, but decided to keep driving it! Both drivers reported.

Another s.59 warning to a driver who had asked us if he could do a burnout for ‘social media purposes’, when met with disapproval he decided to do it anyway ticket issued. Tickets to another driver for having illegally tinted windows, 28% on the windscreen (legal limit 75%) and 14% on the side windows (legal limit 70%.

Just as we were about to end our shift, a serious incident took place which we attended, assisting with management of a small group of rowdy intoxicated people, after being sent on their way, the incident was deemed a crime scene so we stayed on shift and guarded the scene in order to preserve evidence, allowing our response colleagues to continue responding to emergency calls.
