Crime scene in place as man forced out of flat and seriously assaulted inside a van

The offenders have fled the scene following the assault that left a man in his 20s with serious facial injuries

An investigation has been launched in Liverpool following a serious assault on Friday night.

A cordon remains in place whilst detectives carry out their investigations into the assault.

A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said:

“We can confirm emergency services are currently in Wavertree following a serious assault this evening, Friday 14 November.

At around 8.55pm, it was reported that group of men had attended a flat on Picton Road and forced a man aged in his 20s out of the property.

The victim has then been assaulted in a van and sustained serious facial injuries.

The suspects have then left the area and the victim was able to find help from other residents and emergency services were called to the scene. He has been taken to hospital for treatment.

A road closure is currently in place while officers carry out the early stages of the investigation.”

Detective Inspector Dave Sung said: “We are in the very early stages of investigating this incident and officers remain at the scene to establish exactly what has happened.

“Part of our enquiries will be gathering any CCTV and speaking to witnesses. If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please get in touch.

“We will not tolerate such violence in our communities and we are determined to find the people responsible for this assault.”
