Nelson man charged with six terrorism offences

The charge comes as part of an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North West

A man from Nelson arrested yesterday on suspicion of terrorism offences has been charged confirm Greater Manchester Police.

In an update posted today, Greater Manchester Police said:

“Muhammad Billal (24/08/2006) of Westmoreland Street, Nelson has been charged with the following six offences:

Two counts of preparation to commit terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006

Four counts of collection of information of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism, contrary to section 58 (1)(c) of the Terrorism Act 2000.


These charges are in relation to an ongoing investigation being conducted by Counter Terrorism Policing North West.

Billal was arrested yesterday (11/02/2025) at an address in Nelson by officers from CTPNW with support from Lancashire Constabulary and was subsequently charged.

Billal appeared in Westminster Magistrates this morning and was remanded into custody.

He will next appear in Westminster Magistrates court on 19/02/2025.”
