The apartment block has been evacuated for over 28 hours following a concern for welfare of a man inside a property armed
Residents of an apartment block evacuated in Sheffield City Centre due to an ongoing Police incident have been reunited with their pets confirm South Yorkshire Police.
Specialist armed officers and negotiators have been in attendance since 7pm on Monday night.
In an update released this evening, South Yorkshire Police said:
“As officers’ efforts in negotiating with a man in Sheffield to bring an incident to a safe close continues, we continue to ask for the public’s support.
Our officers have been on scene on Broad Street in Sheffield for over 24 hours after we were called following concerns for a man inside a property, who is alleged to be in possession of weapons and a risk to himself.
Residents from a residential apartment block were evacuated from their properties and remain evacuated at this time.
This evening, officers have been able to gain access to the building and have been able to reunite some pets with their owners while our work continues.
Officers are working to reunite the others and ensure they are cared for during this time.
The Sheffield Parkway remains closed in both directions between Park Square roundabout and Derek Dooley Way.

Those evacuated are all cared for and being accommodated with families and friends or in nearby facilities.

A letter given to residents earlier read:
I hope you received my previous letter, but if not, I am Assistant Chief Constable Hayley Barnett, and, on behalf of South Yorkshire Police, I am coordinating the response to the incident at an apartment building near Park Square roundaboutin Sheffield.
The latest update on the incident is that specialist officers are continuing to negotiate with a resident within the property, who is believed to be in possession of weapons.
Properties within the apartment building remain evacuated, and surrounding roads remain closed.
I reiterate my earlier thanks for your cooperation and patience, despite the impact this incident is having on you and your families. Whilst your property has been evacuated for your safety, we know
you are desperate to return to your home and comforts.
As I am sure you understand, we are unable to provide an estimate of when you will be able to return home, but I can assure you that, as soon as it is safe to do so, you, yil be informed either by staff at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, South Yorkshire Police’s Facebook account, or your landlord.
South Yorkshire Police and partner agencies, including Sheffeld City Counci, will continue to meet to coordinate a response that prioritises public safety, and the locai authority will ensure residents have access to accommodation and essentials throughout.
