Van fire on M62 forced closure on Monday morning

The westbound carriageway was closed for a short time whilst firefighters tackled the fire

Emergency services rushed to the scene  between junction 22 and junction 21 near Rochdale earlier this morning shortly after 7am.

Three fire engines were in attendance alongside the police.

National Highways posting on X, said:

“On the M62 westbound between J22 and J21 nr Rochdale, 1 lane (of 3) is closed due to a van fire

The M62 J22 westbound access slip road is also closed

Delays of 45 minutes on the approach, 7 miles of slow moving traffic – almost back to Huddersfield.”

The road was since reopened around 8am.

In an update National Highways said on X:

“All lanes are now open on the M62 westbound between J22 and J21 nr Rochdale.

The earlier incident involving a van fire has now been cleared.

Delays of approx. 45 minutes remain on the approach, 7 miles of slow moving traffic – almost back to Huddersfield.”
