A man has described the moment a collision nearly killed him and says, “im lucky to be alive,” following the horror smash on Sunday night.

Zander Sumner, 42 from East Lancashire, was driving home from a work at the time of the crash on the A59 in Langho on Sunday night.

The guitar teacher describes how he was involved in a high-powered head-on road traffic accident involving a BMW with the occupants, then fleeing the scene, leaving him for dead.

Zander said: “Last night (2/2/2025 – Approx 7.30pm) I was involved in a high powered, head on road traffic accident on Longsight Road (A59) where a BMW driving on the wrong side of the road hit me. It was outside Langholme House and near Northcote Manor.”

He describes how he managed to crawl out of the wreckage before collapsing on the pavement.

“I am seriously injured, but I managed to crawl out of the car, across the road to the pavement where I collapsed. All bystanders, witnesses, and assessors said I should be dead.”

Zander added: “Thankfully, God looked after me. I had my seat belt on, and my car protected me from what would have been certain death in my other car.”

“The 2 – 3 individuals who were in the dark BMW left me for dead and ran off, rather than help me when I was crawling across the road. The registration is ST13 LZO.”

“Please can anyone with any information please contact Ribble Valley / Blackburn police – have you seen these people in the day time? Have you any CCTV? Footage and DNA evidence has been gathered but any more help would be appreciated.”

“These people should have injuries too so please be on the lookout. They must be caught and brought to justice.”

The guitar teacher says he was left with a broken collar bone, fractured ribs, hairline fractures in his hand, damage to his back and kidneys, groin bruising as well as head injuries.

I hope they do the right thing and see sense really, because who would leave someone injured in the roadside like that.”

Having been kept in hospital overnight, he was treated but says he does not expect to return to work for weeks if not months.

He went on to say: “I would like to thank Kimberley Woodward  who was a guardian angel and Billy Martin who also looked after me at the roadside, Dan and Amy the paramedics, PC Gavin and all the staff at Royal Preston Hospital who looked after me.”

“I’m just so thankful I can see Lindsey, Martha, Zachy, and my family again.”
