Drink Driver who crashed car causing multiple casualties and catastrophic injuries jailed

A Wirral woman has today, Wednesday 5 February, been sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment following a serious collision in New Brighton in May 2023.

Gabrielle Dures, 24, of Kirkway, in Upton, was the driver of an Audi A1 that was in collision with a Fiat 500 on Coastal Drive, in New Brighton, on the evening of Sunday 28 May.

There were six injured passengers from the two vehicles who were all young women.  Four of the women suffered significant injuries, some of which were life changing.

Dures pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.  Dures had previously pled guilty in January 2024 for driving whilst over the prescribed limit for alcohol, relating to the same collision for which she was disqualified from driving.

Today at Liverpool Crown she was sentenced to two years and eight months imprisonment and a three year driving disqualification.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This was a devastating collision that resulted in multiple casualties and catastrophic injuries.  The injuries left victims unable to work, study or live their lives as they had done prior to the collision.

“We have worked with those injured to support them, together with our partners ‘Aftermath’ whilst ensuring a thorough investigation was completed in order to demonstrate the reckless behaviour of Dures.

“This was an entirely avoidable collision which resulted in the lives of the victims and their families being seriously impacted.  The devastation caused and the sentence issued to Dures should serve as a warning to others who contemplate driving dangerously or whilst impaired.  Actions of such drivers ruin lives and they run a real risk of being sent to prison.
