He was also banned from driving for 22 months
A driver who led Police through the streets of Accrington reaching speeds of over 100mph has been handed a prison sentence and driving ban.
Lancashire Police said, “What’s that saying two birds, one stone.” PC Rigby was out on patrol on a drizzly dark night in Accrington, a blue Ford Fiesta shot past him at an astonishing speed. Jumping into action, PC Rigby pursued the vehicle, activating his blues and twos in a bid to get the vehicle to stop.
But, ignoring his signals, the driver instead:
Drove at 90mph in a 40 zone, Sped straight over a roundabout, shot through a temporary red light, drove at 83mph in a 40 zone, Sped onwards, reaching 106mph in a 50 zone and overtook a white van on a bend at 70 mph in a 50 zone.
He also drove right over one of our stingers and KEPT GOING, continued to reach speeds of 85mph in a 50 zone, and FINALLY came to a stop after driving at 76mph in a 30 zone.
You know those two birds we were talking about? Well, we’re not surprised he wanted to get away… “After a call to the control room, it also turned out that the car was displaying cloned numberplates and was an outstanding stolen vehicle!
After being penned in by both PC Rigby and PC Nuttall, Sayad Jaffrey, 24, was removed from the vehicle, arrested.
As a result, on the 20th of January 2025, he received 33 weeks Imprisonment along with being disqualified from driving for 22 months for taking motor vehicle without consent, dangerous driving and failing to stop when required by an Officer.
So, a word of warning from us to you; don’t acquire cars that aren’t your own and don’t drive dangerously; we will find you and we will take action against you.
