The motorway has since reopened following the collision.

The M6 Motorway was closed due to a collision involving six vehicles.

All three emergency services rushed to the scene near Preston just before 7am on Monday morning.

All three lanes between Junction 31 and Junction 31A were closed with traffic backed up to Junction 29 whilst emergency services dealt with the collision bringing chaos to morning commuters.

Lancashire Police said earlier: “We want to update you and let you know that lanes 1, 2 and 3 on the M6 Northbound between junctions 31 and 31A (Ribbleton area) are currently closed due to a road traffic collision.

We anticipate that the lanes will be closed for some time, whilst we make sure the road is safe. Please be aware traffic at and around the location will be heavy and slow moving.

In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.

We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening, and we’ll update you here once the road is open. As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you’re out and about today.”
