A grieving family have paid tribute to a ‘loving and caring’ 82-year-old man who died after being found seriously injured in Handsworth.

Allen Karam Chand was attacked in Soho Road at around 3.30 pm on Tuesday 14th January.

He was taken to hospital but sadly died the following weekend.

In a tribute his family said: “Our father was loving, caring, and never deceived anyone. He taught us to respect the law as an ex-army man and we will always miss him.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Jesus said whoever believes in me, though he may die he shall live.

“Our father is not physically with us but he is alive with Lord Jesus.”

A preliminary post mortem revealed Mr Chand died as a result of a head injury.

A 43-year-old man was charged with wounding on Friday 17 January. He appeared at court the next day and was remanded to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 14 February.

As a result of Mr Chand’s death, we are now reviewing the charge in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service.
