Lancashire Police’s road crime unit stopped two vehicles on Monday with the first carrying £50,000 in cash which led to the arrest of a man from Manchester on suspicion of money laundering.

In an update posted today, Lancashire Police said:

“We want to tell you about two stops made on the M6 yesterday in the north of the county.

At around 5:30pm officers from our Roads Crime Team stopped a black Seat Ibiza at the Forton services on the M6.

After speaking to the driver, officers had reason to search the car under the misuse of drugs act.

Following the search, they found £50,000 in a bag within the car.

The driver, a 32-year-old man from Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.

He has since been released under investigation.

A short time later, a large quantity of cannabis was seized after a car was stopped following a pursuit.

A Mercedes C Class was requested to stop by our officers at junction 34 of the motorway at around 7.15pm.

However, the car continued travelling at high speed on the northbound carriageway and was eventually brought to a stop near to junction 35 at Carnforth.

When the car was searched, around £10,000 worth of cannabis was found in a bag in the boot of the car.

Two men were arrested – a 24-year-man on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply, driving with excess drugs, dangerous driving and failing to stop, and a 25-year-old man on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply.

Both are currently in custody.”
