A man has been charged with various offences after a police officer suffered serious injuries following being hit by a car in Cheadle.

In an update posted today, Greater Manchester Police said:

“Harvey Bell (12/08/2005) of Bennett Drive, Knutsford, has been charged with assault, dangerous driving and possession of a class B drug.

He has been remanded to appear at Manchester & Salford Magistrates Court today (Tuesday 28 January 2025).

The charges come after one of our officers was seriously injured during an incident at a retail park on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle on Saturday 25 January.

Superintendent Rick Arthern, of our Stockport District, said: “This was a truly terrifying incident for a frontline officer to go through, so I am delighted to secure these charges, which show that assaults on our officers are completely unacceptable.

“The officer is at home recovering and as the hardworking dedicated officer she is, she wants to return as soon as possible to protect her community.

“The vehicle used to run the officer over remains outstanding and we are asking for any information to assist in locating the vehicle.

“Anyone who saw a Black Audi around the retail park on Saturday night at 11:55pm is urged to contact us on 0161 856 9790, quoting the log number 3558 of 25/01/25.”
