The road is expected to be closed for some time whilst recovery takes place

A lorry has become stuck on a bridge, forcing a road closure in Lancaster.

The HGV is stuck on the Grade 2 listed Lancaster Canal bridge on Kellet Lane and has knocked part of the Wing Wall and Parapet down.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

In a social media post, Lancashire Police said:

“We want to update you and let you know that Kellet Lane from the junction with Nether Beck to the junction with Capernwray Road is currently closed due to a road traffic collision.

We anticipate that the road will be closed for some time, whilst we assess the situation.

In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.

We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening and we’ll update you here once the road is open.

As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you’re out and about this evening.
