A man has been charged following an investigation into the rape of a woman in Runcorn.
In an update posted today, Cheshire Police said:
“Officers investigating a serious sexual assault have charged a man in relation to the incident.
At around 6.57pm on Friday 24 January, police responded to a report of a serious sexual assault in Runcorn.
Following enquiries, Bassam Amari, of Larch Close, Runcorn, was arrested at 9.57pm and has since been subsequently charged with one count of the rape of a woman over 16 and one count of sexual assault on a female.
The 43-year-old appeared at Chester Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 27 January), where he was remanded in custody.
He is next set to appear at Chester Crown Court on Monday 24 February.”
