Vandalising Shoreside Life Rings is Dangerous
HM Coastguard have warmed against the dangers of vandalism after Shoreside Life Rings that are there to save people’s lives have been pulled away from their holders and pulled down the prom in Fleetwood.
In a social media post made today, HM Coastguard Fleetwood said:
“Important Reminder: Vandalising Shoreside Life Rings is Dangerous!
This is very disappointing to see and happens far too often. As a coastal community, we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the beach and the sea and all it has to offers. Also we should all be aware or the dangers it can present and since ourselves and HM Coastguard Lytham are the two busiest Coastguard Teams in the country, that highlights the risks there are on our very own coastline.
Life rings along our shores are there for one reason: safety. These life-saving devices are crucial in emergencies, helping to save lives as an immediate resource that anyone can access, and provide buoyancy to a casualty until ourselves and/or the lifeboat or beach patrol arrive. Vandalising or tampering with them puts everyone at risk, delaying rescue efforts in these critical situations.
Let’s all do our part to protect these essential resources. Stay safe and respect public safety equipment!”
