Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision to come forward
Tributes have been pouring in on social media for 18-year-old Taylor Lupton from Pontefract, who sadly died following a collision on Sunday morning.
Taylor, a young father, had been a passenger in a Volkswagen Golf that had left the carriageway and crashed into a ditch at a water treatment facility in Wheldon Road, Castleford shortly before 6:30am. Sadly, Taylor was found a few meters away from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 21-year-old man and a 21-year-old female were removed from the vehicle that had become partially submerged in water and transported to hospital for treatment. They have both since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving confirm West Yorkshire Police.
Flowers have been left at the scene with those close to Taylor taking to social media to express their devastation on this tragic news.
Taylor’s girlfriend Megan Carswell posted: “Taylor Lupton i don’t even know where to begin, never in a million years i would’ve i thought i’d be writing this message, you were my absolute world and you made me a better person, you taught me how to love myself, i love you so much and i will miss you so much more, i really wish things could be different and you could be sat with me right now, it can’t be put into words how devastated i am right now, i hope to make you proud and you will always be in my mind and heart🕊️❤️
Amie Tait posted: “Cannot believe the news I’ve had this morning! Such a kind person with a heart of gold!! Always come and made the children’s day winding them up with your dad and brother willow is truly fling to miss you!! You will always be a massive part of us here at home! In a statement released on Sunday, West Yorkshire Police said:
“Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Castleford.
At 6.19am today (Sunday), police received a report of a vehicle with persons inside which had left Wheldon Road and gone into a ditch.
Emergency services attended the location and found that the vehicle, a white Volkswagen Golf, had entered a water treatment facility and was partly submerged in a pit of water.
A male and female, both 21, were removed from the vehicle and taken to hospital for further treatment.
A third person, a male, was found a few yards away from the vehicle. He was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
He was later confirmed to be an 18-year-old male from the Wakefield area.
Following further enquiries at the scene the male and female who were removed from the vehicle were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Road closures were put in place on Wheldon Road for a time, but these have now been removed.
The incident is being investigated by the Major Collision Enquiry Team, who are appealing for anyone who witnessed the vehicle travelling along Wheldon Road from the direction of Airedale immediately beforehand to contact them.
