Motorists Facing New Years Eve Delays Due To Overturned Lorry On M6 Near Sandbach

A recovery operation is now underway to clear the carriageway following the collision

Motorists are facing delays this morning due to an overturned lorry on the M6 Motorway.

The incident happened in the early hours of New Years Eve on the M6 Northbound between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 18 for holmfield.

Three lanes had to be closed whilst emergency services dealt with the incident, and a clean-up operation is now underway to get the carriageways back open. This is causing congestion in the area for commuters.

Posting on X earlier, The National Highways said:

3 (of 4) lanes closed on the #M6 northbound in #Cheshire between J17 #Sandbach and J18 #Middlewich due to an overturned HGV.

National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene, please allow extra time for your journey.

In a most recent update the National Highways said:

Delays in excess of 20 minutes on the #M6 northbound following the overturned HGV closing 3 (of 4) lanes between J17 #Sandbach and J8 #HolmesChapel

Work to clear the load and recovery continues.

Approx. 1.5 miles of congestion.
