Detectives investigating the death of a 73-year-old man found inside a property in Southport on Sunday have charged a man with murder.

In a statement released, Merseyside Police said:

“We were contacted at 11.50pm on Sunday 22 December following concern for a man at a house in Braemar Avenue. Paramedics attended and sadly found a 73-year-old man deceased.

His family are being supported by specialist officers.

John David Sarwanskyj, 52 years, of Braemar Avenue in Southport has been charged with murder.

He remains in custody and will appear Liverpool Magistrates Court on Thursday 26 December.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Nuttall said: “Although a charge has been made, we continue to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances of what has taken place.

“I would ask anyone that was in the vicinity of Braemar Avenue at that time who we haven’t already spoken to get in touch with us. In addition, I also ask those with CCTV or dashcam footage to please check it to see if it may have captured something significant that will help with the investigation.”

“We would urge people not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.”
