Teen Killed After Car Failed To Stop For Police Following Pursuit In Sheffield Crashes Into Wall

A car suspected to have been stolen attempted to flee a police pre-planned operation in the city prior to the pursuit

An investigation is underway following reports of a road traffic collision in Sheffield.

Yesterday (Monday 23 December) just before 1pm, officers were in the Hyde Park Walk area on a pre-planned operation.

While in the area, a black Ford Fiesta believed to have been stolen has reacted to the police presence and attempted to flee the scene.

Following a short pursuit, the black Fiesta has collided with a wall. East Bank Road was closed for a period of time while officers conducted their work, but has since been reopened.

An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital where he has sadly died as a result of his injuries. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

In an appeal made today, South Yorkshire Police said:

“We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in anyone who may have been in the City Road, Park Grange Road, Spring Lane and Northern Avenue areas.
