Elderly man dies after car gets stuck in Lancashire flood water

A woman in her 80s was also rescued and taken to hospital for treatment

Tragic news coming from East Lancashire following the death of a man whose vehicle becomes trapped in flood water following storm Bert.

Emergency services were called to Cockerhill Lane in fouldridge on Saturday afternoon. Police, ambulance, and fire crews attended the scene and rescued a man and woman in their 80s from the flood water using specialist equipment. Sadly, the man who has not been named died in hospital a short time later.

In a statement released today, Lancashire Police said:

“Our officers, along with colleagues from the other emergency services attended, and a man in his 80s was recovered from the water.

Very sadly, he was later pronounced dead at hospital. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.

A woman in her 80s was also taken to hospital. Thankfully her condition is not life threatening.

“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.”
