Trains have been cancelled due to the incident on Saturday morning.
Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident on the tracks between Southport and Wigan Wallgate with a road closure in place.
Trains to and from these stations have been cancelled.
Sussex Road in Southport, between Tithebarn Road and St Luke’s Road, were closed whilst emergency services dealt with the incident
Posting on X Northern Rail said: Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Southport and Wigan Wallgate the line is blocked.
Train services running to and from these stations will be cancelled.
Emergency services are at the location.
Customers at Southport can use Merseyrail services.
They also added: The “09:52 Stalybridge to Southport due 11:25 has been cancelled. This is due to the emergency services dealing with an incident.”

A spokesperson for British Transport Police confirmed they were called just before 9am to reports of a casualty on the tracks in Southport. Sadly, a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.
