A police cordon was put in place with trains cancelled following the incident

Emergency services received reports of suspicious activity on board two buses that caused major disruption in Chester City Centre on Friday afternoon.

As commuters made their way home from work on a busy Friday afternoon, disruption hit with a sense of panic amongst the public as emergency services descended on the area. An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit also attended the incident.

A large cordon was put in place around Chester train station and the bus interchange with public transport cancelled whilst the reports were investigated.

The exact nature of the reports that sparked such a response has not been given.

Police later confirmed that nothing untoward happened and the cordon was lifted.

In a statement released today, Cheshire Police said:
