The female jogger has been left shaken by the incident in Gateshead
Officers have launched an appeal for the publics help following an incident that left a woman shaken in Gateshead.
A woman out doing her morning jog was allegedly attacked by a man who pinned her down by her wrists and made verbal threats towards her.
The incident happened on Friday morning in the Pipewell Gate area of Gateshead.
In an appeal posted today, Northumbria Police said:
“Did you see anything suspicious in the Pipewell Gate area of Gateshead on Friday morning?
We are investigating a report of a woman in her 20s who was out running being assaulted by a man.
At an area between the Queen Elizabeth II bridge and King Edward bridge, he has approached the woman and grabbed her wrists.
The offender has then forced the woman to the ground and made verbal threats.
She fought the man off before he fled the scene on foot, in the direction of Dunston Staiths.
The victim sustained minor bruising to her wrists, and was left shaken by the incident – we’re offering her support.
The offender is described as a white man, aged between 40 and 60 years old, who was smartly dressed and wearing a flat cap hat.
We’re carrying out additional patrols, and we’d ask people to remain vigilant and report any concerns to us.”
