Increased Police Presence On Great Harwood Street – Here’s Why

This follows on from a vehicle failing stop for officers on monday

An increased police presence could be seen on Meadow  Street in Great Harwood on Friday morning.

This relates to an ongoing investigation into a vehicles being seized after a light goods vehicle failed to stop for officers on the Padiham Bypass on Monday morning.

In a statement released today, Lancashire Police said:

“You may have seen a significant police presence in Great Harwood this morning and we just wanted to tell you what we were doing there.

We attended a property in Meadow Street at 7am to carry out some arrest enquiries.

That related to an incident at 9pm on Monday where our officers attempted to stop a light goods vehicle (LGV) heading towards the Padiham Bypass.

The driver of the vehicle failed to stop when requested, and a pursuit ensued, ending in Meadow Street, Great Harwood.

Following the pursuit, officers seized three vehicles.

As part of our ongoing enquiries into that incident we have today arrested three people from Great Harwood on suspicion of dangerous driving. They are two 19-year-old men and a 19-year-old woman. They remain in custody at this time.

While at the address our officers have located a vehicle suspected of being used in a burglary in Challenge Way, Blackburn, on 7th November in which tens of thousands of pounds of copper wiring was taken.

As a result, five people from have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal and remain in custody at this time. They are three men aged 18, 21 and 29 and from Great Harwood, and a 47-year-old woman from Great Harwood and a 34-year-old woman from Accrington. The 18-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.
