Firefighters are currently tackling the blaze
Emergency services are currently dealing with a vehicle fire on the Accrington Bypass this afternoon.
Delays are expected with motorists asked to find alternative routes.
In a social media post this afternoon, Lancashire Police said:
“We want to update you and let you know that A56 Southbound from Huncoat Interchange is currently closed due to a vehicle.
We anticipate that the road will be closed for a short amount of time, whilst we make sure the road is safe.
In the meantime, we’d recommend looking for an alternative route and driving carefully, leaving plenty of extra time to get to your destination.
We’ll keep tabs on what’s happening and we’ll update you here once the road is open. As always, thank you for your patience and stay safe if you’re out and about today.”
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service said:
“At 13:52 on 15 November 2024, three fire engines from Hyndburn and Burnley attended a large vehicle fire on A56 Accrington.
Fire fighters used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and foam to extinguish the fire.
Crews were in attendance for two hours.”
