Several people were taken to a place of safety from the building on Wednesday
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of slavery offences following a tip off from members of the public alerting police to people living in a derelict building in the resort.
Officers attended Church Street on Wednesday and found several people inside a derelict building. These were taken to a place of safety so that officers could check on their welfare.
In a statement released today, Lancashire Police said:
“You might have seem some police activity in Blackpool town centre yesterday (13th November) and we want to tell you why.
Our officers were called to an address in Church Street, Blackpool, to a concern that people were living in a derelict property which is being renovated.
Several people were taken out of the premises to ensure their welfare.
Four men, aged 44, 47, 52 and 46, and a woman, aged 53, have been arrested on suspicion of slavery, servitude and forced/compulsory labour.
A 52-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences.
All are currently in custody.”
