A man in his 30s has been taken to a police station following his arrest this afternoon.
Armed police swooped on a man outside Parliment in London following reports of a man carrying knives.
Officers received reports shortly after 2pm on Tuesday afternoon of a man armed with knives outside the gates of Parliament. Armed Police quickly attended the area, and a man in his 30s was arrested at the scene.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police Service said:
“Police were called at 14:01hrs on Tuesday 12 November to reports of a man in possession of knives outside Parliament, SW1.
Officers attended, and a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He will be taken to a police station.”
A UK Parliament spokesperson said:
“We are aware of an incident outside Carriage Gates. Parliamentary Security and the Metropolitan Police are present and managing the situation.”
No further details have been released at this time, and no injuries are thought to have been reported following this incident.
