Preston Place had to be evacuated on Sunday morning due to a suspicious package being found

Officers from Lancashire Police placed a 100m safety cordon around the package that was found on Market Place around 11:30am.

Hundreds of people had gathered to pay their respects to our fallen heroes at Preston Cenotaph.

A procession started at Preston bus station shortly after 10:30am, ending at the Cenotaph for those paying their respect to lay down wreaths at around 10:50am.

Lancashire Police later confirmed that after a full investigation, the package was deemed non-suspicious, the cordon was lifted, and the service continued.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said:

“At around 11:30am on Sunday 10th November we were called to reports of a suspicious package on Market Place, Preston.

Officers attended, and a 100m safety cordon was put in place to enable us to conduct a full investigation.
