Man Arrested For Assault & Carrying Offensive Weapon Near Light Up Lancaster Event

A man in his 20s suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment

Officers were called to Dalton Square in Lancaster on Thursday afternoon to reports of a disturbance.

The incident involved men and women with a man in his 20s being taken to hospital for treatment after suffering minor injuries during the incident.

Following the disturbance, a man was arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon and assault.

Lancashire Police have said they will not tolerate such behaviour, especially when families with young children were in the vicinity to attend the light up Lancaster event.

Extra reassurance patrols have been stepped up in the area.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said:

“You might have seen some police activity in Dalton Square, Lancaster, yesterday teatime and we want to tell you why.

Our officers were called at 4.38pm to Dalton Square to a report of a disturbance taking place.

They found that a group of men and women were involved, and that a man in his 20s had suffered minor injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of an offensive weapon, and he’s currently in custody.

We appreciate that children and families were in the area for Light Up Lancaster, and we will not tolerate such behaviour.

Extra patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance today.”
