Man Charged Following Sex Attack On 17-year-old Girl Walking Through Darlington Park

He will appear before Magistrates Court on Monday morning

A man has been charged after a 17-year-old girl was attacked as she walked through a park in Darlington.

An initial statement released by Durham Police said:

“Officers are appealing for information following reports of an assault in South Park, Darlington, at around teatime yesterday (November 2).

It is reported a 17-year-old girl was walking through the park at around 4.45pm when a man has approached her and tried to assault her.

The teenager has managed to get away from the suspect and call 999 for help.

A 42-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remains in police custody.

Officers want to hear from anyone who may have CCTV of the area around the time of the incident or anyone else who was in the park as it is believed there lots of people in the park at the time.

Extra patrols and house-to-house enquiries are also being carried out this afternoon by uniformed officers from the Darlington Neighbourhood Policing Team.

They have since confirmed that a 42-year-old man has been charged.

In a statement released tonight, Durham Police said:

“A man has been charged with several offences following an incident in Darlington yesterday (November 2).

Police were called to reports of an alleged sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl in South Park at around 4.45pm.

Malcolm Thomas Clixby has subsequently been charged on suspicion of attempted rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment.

The 42-year-old, of Darlington, is expected to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court tomorrow morning (November 4).”
