A 42-year-old man remains in custody on suspicion of murder
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in Bolton.
Officers were called to a property following reports of a concern for welfare on Furness Square shortly after 10am on Tuesday morning. Sadly, the body of a woman aged 59 was found inside.
A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
In a statement released today, Greater Manchester Police said:
“A murder enquiry has been launched as detectives investigate the death of a woman in Bolton.
At around 10:13am on Tuesday 29 October 2024, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of a concern for welfare at a property on Furness Square in Bolton.
Officers attended and tragically found a deceased 59-year-old woman at the address.
Bolton District Criminal Investigation Department are heading up the investigation with support from GMP Major Incident Team and enquiries are ongoing.
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Turner said: “The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim’s family at this time. We are committed to getting answers for them and establishing what occurred.
“I understand people will be concerned when they hear of news of what has happened, but I would like to reassure you that we have a number of additional resources dedicated to this investigation.
“We are treating this as a murder investigation are carrying out multiple lines of enquiry.”
