He has been remanded into custody to appear before court at a later date
A man has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm following an investigation by Lancashire Police.
Officers were called to reports of a man carrying a firearm close to a primary school in Burnley on Monday afternoon.
Police were deployed and a man was quickly located and arrested.
In a statement released today, Lancashire Police said:
“We know some of you are aware of an incident in Burnley at 3.16pm on Monday where a man was seen with what some people thought was a firearm, close to Cherryfold Community Primary School in Cog Lane, and we just wanted to give you the latest update.
Our officers quickly attended the area and arrested a man in his 40s.
After consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service, we charged 49-year-old Jason Gorton, of Girvan Grove, Burnley, with possessing of an imitation firearm in a public place. He appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court this morning where he was remanded back into custody.”
